A THOUSAND
CRANES
April 20
- May 22, 2009
By
Kathryn Schultz Miller
Only two years old when the bomb fell on Hiroshima, young
Sadako Sasaki seemed unharmed but was later diagnosed with "radiation
sickness." With boundless optimism, she takes an old story to heart: If
a sick person folds a thousand paper origami cranes the gods will grant
her wish and make her well again. Her wish is that there will never be
another bomb like that again. This is a moving story of one girl's
courage and triumph. First Stage is
pleased to continue its tradition of providing a Multi-Cultural School
Assembly Tour for area schools with A THOUSAND CRANES. This popular
program is designed to aid educators in providing arts experiences for
their students, as well as to provide a forum for multi-cultural
awareness. Past tours have celebrated African-American, Native
American, Latino, Hmong, German American, Irish American and Jewish
